Workout or resistance bands and tubing are popular exercise equipment used by people for added weight or resistance during exercises that encourage muscle toning. Resistance bands are generally made of elastic or latex components that offer varying resistance or tension from 5 to 6 lb. up to 25 lb. of resistance. Some are made of rubber strips approximately 3 to 4 inches wide, while others are shaped into tubes, at the end of which is attached a clip. There are several effective methods for fastening resistance or workout bands to objects.
Step 1
Tie both ends of a resistance or workout band designed as thin strips using a square knot to a sturdy object, such as a table leg. Step into the circle created, placing the band at ankle or knee length as specified by the exercise directions. You'll lose about 4 to 5 inches in length, but the bands will still be effective, even with the shorter range of motion.
Step 2
Wrap a resistance tube with the clip on each end around a secure object like a post or sturdy sofa or table leg. Using the clip, attach the clipped end of the tube to the base of the tube near the clip end. Attach the other end to your leg or arm in the same manner.
Step 3
Attach to a doorknob using either the nylon strap that comes with many sets of exercise tubing bands or by tying one end of the elastic band to the doorknob with a square knot. Hold onto the other side of the resistance band to complete the exercise according to instructions offered in the resistance band set or exercise description found online or in exercise magazines.
Step 4
Anchor the exercise band around your ankle or knee using the hook-and-loop straps attached to some types of exercise bands. These strips have a half-ring attached to one end to clip the end of the exercise tubing to.
Step 5
Purchase a variety of exercise resistance tubing or band accessories through online sources. Such accessories include ankle cuffs, handles, door attachments and attachments that can be hooked or anchored to railings or posts.
Tips and Warnings
- Workout bands last about 6 months to several years, depending on use and care. Don't leave bands outside where they will weather faster.
