A slider in slow pitch softball is a form of curve ball. The slider is a simple pitch that can be mastered in very little time. Used in softball and baseball, the slider is designed to curve slightly as it nears the batter. There are three main factors that determine the success of this pitch: stance, grip and force. Once you have mastered these factors, the slider will come naturally.
Step 1
Grip the softball on the inside of the seams. Your index and middle finger must grip the ball in front while your thumb is supporting the ball loosely. The slider is a two-finger pitch, therefore your thumb should be placed at the side of the ball along the seam for support only.
Step 2
Draw back your ball for the pitch. Do not snap your shoulder or elbow as you come forward, as this can cause serious injury. Keep your shoulder and arm even while creating a single, smooth motion.
Step 3
Follow through with your pitch, snapping at the wrist upon release. This provides your ball with the break at the end that it needs to catch your batter off guard, according to the website iSport.
