The Posture Pulley Neck Exerciser is designed to train the splenius muscles of the neck. These muscles are designed to extend the neck, which means bringing it back toward the body. The primary function of this muscle is to keep your head in proper posture. Unfortunately, our society has made it easy for these muscles to get weak because of time spent looking at computer and television screens. The National Academy of Sports Medicine recommends a chin-tuck based exercise to help alleviate the forward head postural condition, and the Posture Pulley Neck Exerciser does just that.
Step 1
Sit on a chair or the edge of a bench so that your feet are flat on the floor.
Step 2
Grab one hand attachment in each hand.
Step 3
Place the wide resistance band area of the posterior pulley across the back of your head.
Step 4
Pull forward slightly with your hands and make sure you are pulling straight forward. Do not pull upward or downward at an angle.
Step 5
Push your head directly backward by using your neck muscles until your ear is in line with your shoulders. Hold this position for 10 seconds and then relax. Repeat this exercise at least 10 times.
Tips and Warnings
- The movement should be slow and controlled. Make sure to breathe in and out while you perform the exercise to prevent a rapid increase in blood pressure.
- Do not pull forward too intensely, as this will place a dangerous amount of strain on the neck.
