Little League Baseball oversees the rules of youth baseball played in many communities throughout the United States. If a youth baseball organization wants to join the Little League organization, it must sign a charter pledging to play by Little League rules. However, in some cases, an individual league may ask for a waiver of one or more Little League rules.
Procedures
The Little League organization wants its rules to be followed under all circumstances. However, it will let an individual affiliate apply for a waiver that will be considered by the Charter Committee of the league. However, before the Charter Committee considers an individual case, the individual league's board of directors must take a vote and the league president must write a letter outlining the case and send it to the district administrator. The district administrator must render an opinion and forward it to the regional director. The regional director presents the case to the charter committee.
Player Movement
One of the waivers that may occur is for a player who lives in one district to play in another district. This can occur if a player has been a part of one district but is scheduled to play in another district when his family has moved. If the player's family is willing to arrange for transportation back to the original district, the committee may grant the waiver.
All-Star Eligibility
Players who may qualify for an all-star team in one region may ask for a waiver if they don't make a similar all-star team in the district where they are currently living. If a player is good enough for a team in another district to want that player on its all-star team and the player's home district has no objection, the charter committee may approve the waiver to let the player compete for a district outside his home area.
Temporary Custody
A parent may sign a notarized statement granting temporary custody of a child to a friend or a family member. However, that statement is not sufficient to allow a child to use that friend or family member's residence to register the child in Little League. The only acceptable documentation in a change of custody is a court-ordered decree issued by the judge presiding in the case
