What Should You Do to Cleanse Your Colon?

The colon is the part of your digestive tract that is responsible for absorbing nutrients from the foods you eat and fluids from the beverages you drink. Therefore, keeping a clean colon is instrumental to good health. Because you can clean your colon naturally, you do not need to have a procedure or take medications to clean your colon.

Fruits and Vegetables

Eating at least five servings per day of fruits and vegetables is the first step you should take to cleaning your colon. Fruits and vegetables contain fiber, which is a substance that is not absorbed in the digestive tract. Instead, fiber acts as a sponge that moves through the digestive tract to remove waste material. Taking in adequate amounts of fiber on a daily basis will help you cleanse your colon.

Legumes

Legumes, or beans and peas, can help cleanse your colon. Legumes contain large amounts of fiber to help you clean your digestive tract. In addition, legumes contain protein, which is important for overall health. Aim to consume legumes two to three times per week to increase your fiber content to keep your colon clean.

Complex Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are the main food group that provides your body with energy. Carbohydrates include rice, pastas and cereals. Instead of choosing simple carbohydrates, such as white rice, white pastas and sugary cereals, you should choose complex carbohydrates, such as brown rice, brown pastas and whole grain cereals. Complex carbohydrates are not processed and contain a higher fiber count than simple carbohydrates. Choose complex carbohydrates to clean your colon for optimal health.

Drink Water

In order for food and digestive waste to move through your digestive tract, you must be well-hydrated. While you may be eating adequate amounts of fiber, being well-hydrated will make fiber more effective in cleaning out your colon. Water essentially helps fiber flush toxins from your digestive tract. Therefore, you should set a daily goal to drink at least eight glasses of water per day to maintain colon health.
