If you ever have to find a present for a friend, relative or partner, one of the first questions you should ask yourself is "Does he or she play golf?" If the answer is yes, your task becomes much easier. Golfers always need something, so there is a gift you can buy them, whatever your price range. In addition to clubs, accessories and novelty golf items, golfing apparel can be an excellent gift. Golf fashion is no longer just about khaki pants and striped shirts. Nowadays there is a wide range of golf clothing for all tastes.

If Money is Tight

When shopping on a budget, decide whether you want to be practical or just have a bit of fun. For functionality, consider small items such as golf balls or a golf glove. Every golfer needs these things -- and secretly, they hate paying for them. You can get golf balls for $20 per dozen and a glove for just over $10. If you go for a novelty gift, consider a personalized golf towel or a quirky driver head cover in the shape of some animal or even with the design of the recipient's favorite football team.

When You're Feeling Generous

If you have more money to spend, consider a golf bag: It never hurts a golfer to have more than one. If you know if the person already has a carry bag, treat them to a larger cart bag. Most golf retailers will have cart bags from the leading brands in a variety of colors. For a high-quality cart bag, expect to pay around $200. Most recreational golfers use stand bags regularly, so there is greater choice available. You can find many leading models for between $100 and $150.

Men's Apparel

If you are buying for someone who likes to dress with some flair, there are many new companies in the golf clothing market. Brands such as J. Lindeberg, Puma and Peak Performance produce clothing that is bolder than most. With young PGA Tour player Rickie Fowler as its poster boy, Puma has developed a range of clothes that includes fitted bermuda golf shorts, a golfing track jacket and a V-neck argyle sweater, as well as flat-rim hats. For golfers who prefer a traditional look, there are plenty of options. Walk into any pro shop or even a department store and you'll find traditional golfing attire. Ralph Lauren's golf range, as worn by PGA Tour players Davis Love III and Luke Donald, offers a large variety of colors and styles. The guy you're buying for won't have to worry about his playing partner wearing the same shirt.

Women's Clothes

With more ladies taking up golf, clothing companies responded, and women now have greater choice in what they wear on the course. Brands such as Adidas, Oakley, Puma and others produce women's golf lines. Puma's leading endorsers Anna Nordqvist and Lexi Thompson sport Puma's golf performance skirts, sleeveless polos and various flashy buckles while competing on the LPGA Tour. Women's golf shoes tend to leave men's trailing in the dust in terms of style, and are a useful gift because every golfer should have more than one pair of shoes, for style purposes and to help them last longer.
