If you want to work your abdominal muscles at home, an instructional DVD can demonstrate exercises that target the area. Those looking to tone the abs and build core strength often use Pilates routines. To keep your mid-section trim and toned, you should also participate in regular sessions of cardio exercise.

"10 Minute Solution: Rapid Results Pilates"

This DVD was the top pick from "Fitness" magazine for individuals who are looking to build core strength. Routines are broken down into 10-minute intervals, which are ideal if you don't have a large amount of time to work the abs. Lara Hudson is the Pilates instructor who leads each of the five routines included on the video. Lara not only instructs you on how to maintain proper form during each pose but also focuses on the correct way to breathe. You'll need a set of dumbbells for some of the exercises featured on the DVD.

"Physique 57"

"Woman's Day" magazine selected this video as one of their 10 best fitness DVD picks. The technique used during this workout routine is to overload certain muscles, such as the abdominals, until they are fatigued. After the abs are overloaded, you'll stretch to avoid muscle strain. In the Volume One kit, you'll not only get the full and express workout DVDs but also a DVD that focuses only on abs and arms. The Ab and Arm Booster workout takes 30 minutes to complete.

"Core Fusion Pilates Plus"

In "Real Simple" magazine, this DVD was highlighted for working the abs, arms and buttocks. This program was developed at Exhale Spa and focuses on using your core muscles for every move you make. The DVD is led by the creators of the Core Fusion technique, Fred DeVito and Elisabeth Halfpapp. This DVD is also broken down into five 10-minute mini-sessions.

"Stott Pilates Intermediate Matwork"

The Think Pilates website selected this DVD as the best instructional video on the market. The pace is quick to keep the heart rate up during the workout, while still clearly explaining how to complete each exercise and how to breathe properly. A total of 45 Pilates core strengthening exercises are done during the 49-minute DVD.
