Chicken eggs are healthy and quick to prepare, making them a great alternative to fast food. A large egg contains only 72 calories but provides 10 percent of your daily protein needs, and is packed with vitamin A, D and B12. There is no difference in nutrition or taste between brown eggs and white eggs.

Boiled Eggs

To boil eggs, simply place them in a small pan and add enough water to cover them. Place the pan over a high temperature and allow the water to boil. Once the water is boiling, set your kitchen timer and when it beeps remove the egg from the pan, peel it and serve. For a soft-boiled egg with a firm white and slightly runny yolk, set your timer for four minutes. Five minutes will give you a firmer yolk and seven minutes will result in a hard-boiled egg. Try serving soft boiled eggs with thin strips of toast to dip in the yolk, and adding chopped boiled eggs to salads.

Poached Egg

To poach an egg, bring a pan of water to a boil and add a drop of vinegar. When the water is boiling gently, crack an egg into the water and allow it to cook for three to five minutes. Three minutes will result in a runny yolk while five will give a firm yolk. Remove your egg using a slotted spoon, and serve it with a toasted English muffin and a slice of ham or smoked salmon for a classic combination.

Fried Egg

Add a little oil to a frying pan and place it over medium heat. When the oil is hot, add your cracked egg and allow it to cook for about three minutes. You can either flip the egg over to ensure it is cooked on both sides or spoon some of the hot oil over the yolk during the cooking time to help it set. Serve your fried egg with bacon or put it between two slices of toast for a fried egg sandwich.

Scrambled Eggs

If you need a speedy meal choose scrambled eggs. Crack two eggs into a bowl, add a dash of milk and beat them together. Heat a drop of oil in a pan over a medium to high heat, add the egg mixture and cook, stirring constantly until the egg is set. Serve immediately on slices of buttered toast. Try adding cheese, black pepper or herbs to your scrambled egg mixture and serving it alongside bacon and grilled tomatoes.
