The Dr. Oz Miracle Diet is another diet plan among the hundreds of thousands currently marketed today. The Miracle diet differs in that it focuses on a fruit known as the acai berry from Brazil. The berry is an antioxidant that some say helps prevent certain diseases. The diet plan also involves cleansing of the colon using all-natural methods that aid in eliminating waste products from the body, allegedly leading to weight loss. Although controversial, the Dr. Oz Miracle Diet might assist in weight loss under a physician's supervision.

Benefits of Acai Berry

The acai berry has been promoted as a super-fruit and originates from palm trees grown in Brazil. Central American natives have used this fruit for hundreds of years because of benefits in healing digestive disturbances. The acai berry has double the amount of antioxidants present in blueberries, which might aid in the prevention of heart disease and certain cancers. Furthermore, it is a source of healthy omega-3 fatty acids, which are necessary for normal body functioning, hormonal balance and the absorption of vitamins.

Colon Cleansing

The acai berry has been touted as a natural colon cleanser. A colon cleanse removes waste products and toxins from the body, such as undigested food that remains in the gut. This aids in the smooth functioning of the digestive system and stimulates the metabolism to increase calorie burn. The acai berry's high fiber content might be behind its alleged digestive prowess. However, this berry is not a magical fruit and should only be one part of a healthy eating plan. The attorney general of Connecticut says no significant scientific research shows that acai berries can lead to weight loss or detoxification efforts.

Fruits and Vegetables

The Dr. Oz Miracle Diet spotlights fruits and vegetables as the foundation of any healthy weight-loss plan. Fruits and vegetables are low in calories, have little or no fat, contain no added sugars and are a source of dietary fiber. Their high fiber and water content aid in the regulation of blood glucose levels, which prevent you from experiencing sugar crashes that can lead to lethargy and increased food cravings shortly after eating. Furthermore, produce is a rich source of essential vitamins and minerals that are necessary for normal body functions, as well as a healthy heart, skin and reproductive system.

Litigation

It must be noted that although Dr. Oz discusses the benefits and uses of acai berries in his Miracle Diet, he does not endorse any associated dietary supplements. In August 2009, Dr. Oz, his producers and the company that produces his show, Oprah Winfrey's Harpo Inc., issued a trademark complaint against Internet marketers of various dietary supplements, which included acai berry products. Harpo Inc. has said that neither Oprah Winfrey nor Dr. Oz has ever endorsed or sponsored any supplements related to acai berries, colon cleansing or resveratrol supplements. Avoid any products or companies that use these celebrities' names unlawfully and consult with a physician prior to taking any new substances.
