Nutrisystem is a popular diet delivery program that may help you lose weight as you eat the meals and snacks and other healthy foods. There are other programs like Nutrisystem, and you may find one of the alternatives meets your needs better. Ask your doctor for advice as you choose a weight loss program.
Overview of Nutrisystem
Each day on Nutrisystem, you eat a Nutrisystem breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack or dessert that is delivered to your door. The meals are low glycemic so they do not spike your blood sugar, and you supplement them with foods from the grocery store such as reduced-fat dairy products, whole grains, beans, healthy fats, fruits and vegetables. Nutrisystem has programs for men, women, individuals with type 2 diabetes, and older adults; and the company claims the program can help you lose 1 to 2 lb. per week.
Jenny Craig
Jenny Craig is a more comprehensive diet delivery program than Nutrisystem. Like Nutrisystem, Jenny Craig offers weight loss programs for men, women, older adults and individuals with type 2 diabetes, and the programs include three prepared meals and a snack for each day. You eat additional foods from the supermarket, and you can interact with other Jenny Craig clients on online forums. On Jenny Craig, you have weekly individual sessions, in-person or over the telephone, with a Jenny Craig weight loss consultant who guides you through the Jenny Craig curriculum for a healthy lifestyle.
BistroMD
BistroMD is a less comprehensive diet delivery program than Nutrisystem in that it includes prepared foods but not as many online features. You can choose to get all of your meals and snacks from BistroMD, or you can order BistroMD meals and supply your own snacks. BistroMD promotes its meals as gourmet because they are freeze-dried, not frozen. The program does not have online discussion forums or weight tracking tools, but you can ask a dietitian questions.
Diet to Go
Diet to Go supplies a breakfast, lunch and dinner to help you lose weight, and you can add fruit and vegetables for snacks. The low-fat plan is based on percentages of calories from carbohydrates, fat and protein, similarly to Nutrisystem. Diet to Go also offers a low-carbohydrate program that provides an average of 30 g net carbs per day. Diet to Go will deliver your meals; if you prefer, you can avoid shipping costs and pick up your meals from locations in Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia and San Francisco.
