How to Throw a Screwball in Wiffleball

Throwing special pitches like a screwball using a Wiffle ball is significantly simpler than throwing one with a regular baseball because of the slits cut into the ball's hollow frame. The air passing the ball's surface travels in and out of the hollow frame, creating drag on the side where the holes are located and changing the ball's flight pattern. To throw a screwball, all you need is the proper grip and a good amount of speed.

Step 1

Place your index and middle fingers spread out on the ball as if you were making a "peace" sign with your index finger resting on the seam and the holes facing in toward you.

Step 2

Place your thumb on the seam of the ball beneath your index finger. Rest your ring and pinkie finger together on the outside.

Step 3

Grip the ball loosely and throw it overhand. If thrown hard enough with the correct grip, the ball should break from left to right on right-handed pitchers.
