Wiffle ball is a game that is played a lot like baseball, but instead of a baseball and baseball bat, players use a Wiffle ball and Wiffle ball bat. In addition, some players field bare-handed instead of using gloves and in most cases the pitcher is closer and the bases are shorter than they are on standard baseball fields. Wiffle balls are unique in that they are plastic and have holes in them, which makes it easier to make the ball curve or move, so throwing a nasty or hard to hit curveball is much easier with a Wiffle ball.
Step 1
Grip the Wiffle ball with two fingers on top of the ball and your thumb below on the bottom of the ball. This grip is like a standard baseball grip for a straight pitch or fastball. The holes of the Wiffle ball should be on the outside of your throwing hand, so pointing directly right for a righthander and to the left for a lefthanded thrower.
Step 2
Use a loose grip so that the ball moves out of your hand easier and breaks better. Too tight of a grip can choke the ball and make it land short of home plate and the batter.
Step 3
Throw the ball with an overhand motion just as you would a standard, straight fastball. In Wiffle ball, the holes will make the ball curve or move so you do not need to change your pitching motion or turn your wrist like you would to throw a curveball in baseball.
Step 4
Change the speed that you throw the ball to get different breaks on the pitch. According to Wiffle ball player Tom von Geldern, mixing up the speeds makes the curve a filthy or nasty pitch. Von Geldern says that throwing the ball as slow as you can gives a bigger break, while throwing the ball harder will make it curve less, but break later.
