Training for a triathlon requires a dedicated program for swimming, cycling and running. With the time spent on each sport, some triathletes overlook the transitions from the swim to the bike, and the from the bike to the run. Practicing the transitions allows you to save time and energy during the race. A technique commonly used by elite triathletes to save time in the swim-to-bike transition is to set up the cycling shoes in the pedals so you can put them on while riding.
Step 1
Rack your bike in the designated transition spot.
Step 2
Clip your cycling shoes into the pedals.
Step 3
Open the velcro straps or untie the laces.
Step 4
Tie a rubber band onto each heel loop and attach to the bike. This keeps the cycling shoes right side up so you can easily place your foot inside the shoe.
Step 5
Practice the transition. You can visualize the transition into the cycling shoes or physically practice mounting the bike and securing the shoes.
Tips and Warnings
- Organize the other gear in your transition area by laying out a towel, race number, bike helmet, sunglasses, running shoes and any other personal items.
Things You'll Need
