Unfortunately, many popular salad dressings are quite high in harmful nutritional components. You can reduce the negative elements in your salad by switching to a reduced fat or reduced sodium version of your favorite dressing. Of course, simply adding less dressing to your salad is one of the most effective ways to improve the salad's nutritional value.

Ranch Dressing

A serving of 1 tbsp. of typical regular ranch dressing contains about 73 calories, 7.7 g of total fat, 5 mg of cholesterol and about 123 mg of sodium. It only contains 1 g of carbohydrates, 0.4 g of sugars, 0.1 g of dietary fiber and 0.2 g of protein. Ranch dressing does offer about 5.7 IU of vitamin A, 0.5 mg of vitamin C, 4.7 mg of calcium and 0.1 mg of iron.

Italian Dressing

A serving of 1 tbsp. of typical regular Italian dressing contains about 43 calories and 4.2 g of total fat with 0.7 g of saturated fat. It contains no cholesterol but about 243 mg of sodium. Carbohydrates total 1.5 g, with no dietary fiber, 1.2 g of sugars and 0.1 g of protein. It contains 5.3 IU of vitamin A, 0.7 mg of vitamin E, 1 mg of calcium and 7.1 mg of potassium.

French Dressing

A serving of 1 tbsp. of typical regular French dressing contains about 73 calories and 7.2 g of fat with 0.9 g of saturated fat. There is bout 134 mg of sodium in the dressing, but no cholesterol. The dressing contains 2.5 g of total carbohydrates, 0.1 g of protein and 2.6 g of sugars but no dietary fiber. It contains 74.2 IU of vitamin A, 19.4 ug of vitamin K, 10.7 mg of potassium and 3.8 mg of calcium.

Caesar Dressing

A serving of 1 tbsp. of typical regular Caesar dressing contains about 78 calories and 8.5 g of fat with 1.3 g of saturated fat. It contains 0.3 mg of cholesterol, 158.5 mg of sodium, 0.5 g of carbohydrates, 0.2. g of protein, 0.2 g of sugars and no dietary fiber. The dressing also contains 16.5 ug of vitamin K, 1 IU of vitamin A, 3.5 mg of calcium, 4.3 mg of potassium and 2.8 mg of phosphorus.
