Estradiol is a prescription drug used to treat the symptoms of menopause. During menopause, the body begins to produce less estrogen, causing symptoms like hot flashes, chills, unusual sweating and dizziness, according to MayoClinic.com. Estradiol contains the female hormones progestin and estrogen to help make up for the lack of estrogen in women experiencing menopause. Making adjustments to your eating habits and engaging in strength training workouts can help you gain weight while on estradiol, since muscle weighs more than fat. However, be sure to first consult your doctor to discuss possible complications associated with increased activity while taking estradiol.
Step 1
Engage in strength training workouts three days per week to add shape to your physique and increase lean muscle while taking estradiol. Perform one exercise for each muscle group such as bicep curls, sit-ups for abs, push-ups for chest and arms, lunges for legs and butt, triceps dips, shoulder presses, bent-over rows for back and squats for legs. Execute each exercise for one set of 15 repetitions. Rotate through the circuit of exercise three times.
Step 2
Consume more calories daily to promote weight gain. Increase your calorie intake by 500 to gain about 1 lb. per week.
Step 3
Eat foods with high nutritional value to gain weight in a healthy manner. Consume foods in their natural form such as low-fat dairy products, whole grains, fruits, good fats such as nut butters and olive oil, vegetables, lean choices of meat, skinless poultry, fish and eggs. Avoid filling up on processed foods or foods high in saturated and trans fats and refined sugars, which can increase the risk for conditions like heart disease.
