What Is the Downhill & the Success Path to Bodybuilding?

If you want to succeed in bodybuilding you have to make the sport your way of life. You need to work with sufficient intensity and correct frequency and strictly adhere to an appropriate diet. Almost anyone can improve their physiques through bodybuilding, but it requires commitment and years of hard work to make it to the top. Training

Bodybuilding training is based on a principle known as progressive overload. If you subject your muscles to an amount of work that is greater than what they are accustomed to, they will respond by increasing in size. You can use a combination of free weights and machines to stimulate your muscles to grow. Exactly how and when to train depends on your your level of fitness and how long you have been bodybuilding. If you are a beginner you should aim to develop overall muscle mass, training your whole body three times a week, with primarily compound exercises.

Diet

No matter how hard you train, you will not improve your physique unless your nutrition is right for bodybuilding. Your diet fuels your workouts and provides your body with the raw ingredients it needs to build new muscle. According to a study published in "Sports Medicine," if you are a bodybuilder, your total energy intake should be made up of 15 to 20 percent fat, 30 percent protein and 55 to 60 percent carbohydrate.

Rest

Your workouts only provide the stimulation that your muscles need to grow, the actual growth itself occurs during the subsequent repair process. No matter how hard you train, you won't make progress in bodybuilding without adequate rest periods. If you train your whole body in one workout, you need to rest for at least 48 hours between sessions. In the advanced stages of bodybuilding, where you train more intensely and split the body over several workouts, you may need to wait five to seven days before training the same body part again.

Lifestyle

Considering how fundamental training and diet are to bodybuilding, it is not difficult to see how the sport can impact on your lifestyle as a whole. Consistency is the key when it comes to training, and you may have to adjust your schedule in order to find time for the gym. Socializing and eating out can also present challenges, and if meeting your friends means burgers and beer you will have to exercise some serious willpower to keep on track.
