It is not unusual to see professional basketball players wearing a variety of accessories while they play, and many younger players want to mimic those equipment choices. These equipment accessories range from shooting sleeves, to sweatbands, to small wristbands, all of which have a stated purpose but are often for looks. It is important for players to understand how basketball equipment is designed to be worn and where, so their shooting form and results do not suffer.

Step 1

Check to make sure jerseys fit properly. The jersey should not be loose and falling off your shoulders, but it should not be so tight that it restricts motion either. Too far in either extreme can affect your arms and shooting form.

Step 2

Find wristbands, sweatbands and shooting sleeves that fit snugly and do not slide up and down the arm. Movement from these pieces of equipment can affect the arm and distract you while shooting.

Step 3

Keep wristbands, shooting sleeves and sweatbands away from the elbow and the triceps area of the upper arm. In addition, the wrist should be able to easily flex with anything worn around it. Anything that restricts bending or straightening of the arm can bother your shot.

Step 4

Select warm-up attire that is loose and provides more room and flexibility. Warm-ups are not designed to be worn during a game. They should be bigger than your jersey so your arms and form are not restricted. Most warm-ups are long sleeves, so having them too tight can limit your range of motion.
