Nutrition Information for a Chicken Flatbread Sandwich at Taco Bell

Fast food restaurants are not known for their nutritious dining options. The temptation of getting your food as quickly as possible can, at times, become more important than your foods actual nutritional value. But recently, fast food chains have begun introducing healthier dining options on their menu. Taco Bell now offers a relatively healthy Chicken Flatbread Sandwich, a great alternative to some burgers offered elsewhere that can contain more than 1,000 calories and 50 grams of fat.

The Ingredients

The Chicken Flatbread Sandwich includes square flatbread and marinated, all-white-meat chicken to reduce the overall fat content of the convenient sandwich. It also contains a blend of three cheeses: cheddar, pepper jack and mozzarella. The stuffings are topped with chipotle sauce, and the sandwich is toasted in an oven until the cheeses melt, sealing in the flavors.

Nutritional Content

Taco Bell's Chicken Flatbread Sandwich contains only 290 calories. While this is low for a fast food offering, almost half of these calories, 48.3 percent come from fat. The sandwich also has 15 g of fat, including 3.5 g of saturated fat, and 15 g of protein. It contains 720 mg of sodium, or approximately 30 percent of your daily sodium intake. Each sandwich has 23 g of carbohydrates, 2 g of dietary fiber and 5 g of sugar.

Fast Foods

Should you opt for a fast food dining option, the Mayo Clinic recommends eating low-calorie, healthy menu options. Taco Bell's Chicken Flatbread Sandwich qualifies as a good fast food option. The chicken inside the sandwich is not fried or breaded and the overall calorie content of the sandwich is relatively low. The Mayo Clinic notes, however, that it is also important to consider any sides or beverages you consume with you fast food entrée: Avoid sugary sodas and skip any additional high-calorie sauces for your sandwich.

Taco Bell was the idea of a former marine Glen Bell. He opened his first restaurant Bell's Drive-in in San Bernardino, California in 1946. From this first restaurant, Bell expanded his operation into several different restaurants, including Taco Bell, which was purchased by PepsiCo in 1978.
