1. Protection Against Bacteria Invasions
Biaxin is an antibiotic prescription medication usually prescribed by a doctor to treat a bacterial infection in the skin and respiratory systems. From time to time, doctors also prescribe Biaxin to treat stomach ulcers. If your doctor has prescribed Biaxin or Clarithromycin (which is the generic name for Biaxin), it is because you have some form of bacterial infection in your body.
2. Fight Bacteria
If taken as prescribed, Biaxin is effective in fighting off dangerous bacterial infections in the body. Biaxin works best when taken with eight ounces of water on an empty stomach. However, it is okay to take it with food also. Biaxin is like a bomb against bacteria. It slowly releases its healing agents to fight the bacteria. Therefore, you should never crush it or cut it in half. You should always swallow it whole so that it can go attack those bad bacterial infections.
3. Know the Side Effects
Biaxin is a prescription drug; therefore, it has the possibility of bothering you with side effects. One of the common side effects include diarrhea. However, diarrhea could also be the sign of another infection. Check for consistency and blood in the stool and report it to your doctor immediately. Other side effects may include fever, sore throat, headache, an unpleasant taste in your mouth, tooth discoloration, dizziness, confusion and vaginal itching or discharge. You should report any side effects to your doctor.
4. Not a Wonder Drug
It is important to know that Biaxin is not a wonder drug. It may or may not work. You should take your prescription as prescribed for 7 to 14 days. After this time period, if you still have symptoms of the bacterial infection, your doctor may prescribe a larger dose or a different medication. Therefore, it is important that you communicate well with your doctor while taking Biaxin.
5. Contraindications for Biaxin
People with kidney disease, liver disease, porphyria or a history of QT disease should not take this medication. If you have a known allergy to Clarithromycin, take another type of antibiotic for your bacterial infection. Women who are pregnant or nursing should not take this medication because it could cause harm to the baby.
