While recreational snowboarders often stick to the carved-out runs of the mountain slope, more extreme riders prefer to execute freestyle maneuvers on rails and ramps. The snowboarding terrain park often resembles the skateboarding park. Both facilities feature numerous sizes of ramps and rails. The fiberglass design of the snowboarding rail allows you to slide without damaging the bottom of your board. Professional snowboarder Aaron Bittner recommends looking over your leading shoulder while performing the board slide. Practice the board slide on a small rail to get comfortable with the trick.

Step 1

Locate a small snowboarding rail in your local terrain park. Walk about 30 feet in front of the rail, and lower your snowboard onto the slope. Rotate your snowboard to a horizontal position to prevent it from sliding down the mountain.

Step 2

Align your boots into the snowboard bindings, and fasten the retention straps. Stand in a stationary position with your knees slightly bent. Rotate your shoulders to point the nose of the snowboard in the direction of the rail.

Step 3

Lean onto your heels or toes to navigate the snowboard in the direction of the rail. Approach the obstacle with your toes parallel to the rail. Extend your legs to jump vertically over the top of the rail.

Step 4

Rotate your shoulders 90 degrees to keep the snowboard perpendicular the rail. Bend your knees as the snowboard makes contact with the rail. Lean back while looking over your shoulder .

Step 5

Jump away from the rail as you reach the end. Rotate your shoulders 90 degrees to point the nose of the snowboard down the mountain. Bend your knees to absorb the impact of the landing.
