Do Natural Sculpting Systems Really Help You Lose Weight?

When it comes to weight loss, almost everyone has problem spots --- those areas of the body that just seem to hold onto fat. For some, it's the belly and love handles. For others, it's the hips and thighs. With diet and exercise, almost anyone can change the shape of her body. But this takes time and patience, sending many dieters to look for alternatives to more easily target the fat. This has paved the way for a number of products that claim to "spot-reduce" problem areas. One is the Natural Sculpting System, a combination of minerals, herbs, oils and extracts you just apply to the skin to help melt away the fat.

Sculpting System

The Natural Sculpting System is a kit that contains a topical cream and a container of herbal capsules. Both products are applied directly to skin to not only shed weight, but also lose inches, cellulite and wrinkles from those areas of the body where you store fat. Basically, the makers are telling you that their system targets fat, especially when used in combination with diet and exercise.

Spot Reduction

The problem with this claim is that you can't spot-reduce fat. Even exercises that focus on one particular region of the body won't burn fat solely from this area. To do this, you must first decrease body fat. Nothing in the Natural Sculpting System affects your metabolism, caloric intake or energy expenditure, three factors that influence your weight.

Caloric Deficit

To decrease body fat, you must generate a caloric deficit. It takes a deficit of 3,500 calories to lose a pound of fat. Applying the Natural Sculpting System --- or any other ointment, for that matter --- to the skin won't help you reach this deficit. The only way to create a deficit in calories is through diet and exercise, which the makers of this product do recommend.

Recommendation

If you already need to increase your level of physical activity and decrease your caloric intake to lose the weight, you have to wonder what the Natural Sculpting System is providing its users. Since there's no way to target fat loss, you're just applying a cream and a series of oils and extracts to the skin. It's not helping you lose the weight.
