The cutter is a baseball pitch similar to a fastball but with a slight curve to it, making it a deadly addition to your pitching résumé. When thrown using a wiffle ball, the pitch's flight pattern is exaggerated by the extra resistance generated by the slits in the top of the ball. As with all wiffle ball pitches, the key to throwing a good cutter is the proper grip and getting enough speed behind the throw.

Step 1

Grip the ball with the holes facing inward toward your side with your index finger slightly overlapping the bottom of the holes and the index finger slightly spaced out over the seam of the ball.

Step 2

Place your ring and pinky fingers together along the bottom of the ball and your thumb along the holes on the opposite side.

Step 3

Throw the ball overhand as hard as you can toward the target.

Step 4

Follow through to help exaggerate the curve and guide the ball toward the target.
