Founded in 1975 in Highland Park, Michigan, Powerhouse Gyms are now located in 39 states and 15 countries. They offer a wide variety of fitness equipment along with personal training opportunities for gym members. Powerhouse Gyms require that their personal trainers be certified by a nationally accredited personal training organization and maintain current CPR certification. Personal trainers help assess fitness levels, design and implement exercise programs for clients. The gyms look for motivated, dedicated fitness professionals with a passion for helping others achieve their fitness goals. Follow a few steps to increase your chances of employment at a Powerhouse Gym.
Step 1
Obtain a personal trainer certification. To work at Powerhouse, you will need a nationally recognized fitness certification. Consider certification through the American College of Sports Medicine, the National Academy of Sports Medicine, American Council on Exercise or the International Sports Science Association. Receive your study materials and study at your own pace. When you feel your are ready, schedule and take your personal trainer examination.
Step 2
Become certified in CPR. CPR certification is a must for Powerhouse Gym personal trainers. CPR teaches you lifesaving techniques in the event of an emergency. Obtain certified through a recognized organization such as the American Red Cross. Certification cannot be received through a strictly online program. You will need to attend a certification course.
Step 3
Revamp your resume. Highlight your personal training certification and CPR certification. Create a cover letter that states your interest in becoming a Powerhouse Gym personal trainer.
Step 4
Apply online or in person. Submit your resume on Powerhouse Gym's website or visit your nearest Powerhouse location. Ask to speak with a manager regarding potential opportunities in personal training. If you are already a member of a Powerhouse Gym and interested in employment, talk to a manager regarding the steps required to become a personal trainer.
Step 5
Interview for a job. Dress in business casual attire -- dress pants, shirt, shoes and a tie for males -- and attend your job interview. Females should wear dress pants or a skirt with a button-down shirt or other nice shirt. Be confident about your knowledge of personal training and your desire to help others achieve their fitness goals. Bring a copy of your cover letter and resume to your interview.
