If your cholesterol levels are in check and your doctor has given you permission to eat egg yolks every once in a while, then you are in for a tasty treat. Though egg yolks contain saturated fat and cholesterol, they also provide you with a plethora of vitamins and minerals, including vitamin D, folate, lutein and calcium. When you are making a recipe that calls for only egg whites, there's no need to throw away the yolks; rather, cook them up and throw them in a salad for extra protein.

Step 1

Place 1 to 2 inches of water into a non-stick pan; bring the water to a boil on the stove.

Step 2

Turn the heat down to simmer and gently slide your raw egg yolks into the water.

Step 3

Cook the egg yolks for three to four minutes.

Step 4

Remove the egg yolks from the water with a slotted spoon when they are cooked all the way through.

Step 5

Place the yolks on a paper towel for 30 to 60 seconds to soak up any excess water.

Step 6

Crumble the egg yolks onto a spinach salad, brown rice or pasta dish for added protein, vitamins and minerals.

Things You'll Need

  • Egg yolks
  • Pan
  • Water
  • Slotted spoon
  • Paper towel
