Whenever you peel an orange, you rupture tiny fragrant sacs in its peel, which burst with orange essential oil and release an incredible orange aroma. Orange essential oil has many therapeutic properties and is currently used as an alternative or complement to traditional medicinal treatments. Seek advice from your doctor before starting any new treatment.
Orange Essential Oil
Orange oil can be inhaled, topically applied to your skin or consumed internally. Orange oil is extracted from the tiny odorous sacs in orange peels through the process of mechanical cold-pressing. Orange peels are high in antioxidants like vitamins A and C, which have been shown to fight free radicals in your body.
Organic is Best
Organically grown oranges are used for oil extraction so toxic substances do not become incorporated into the oil during the cold-pressing process. This helps prevent possible chemical toxicity. Organic oranges do not contain any synthetic chemicals or genetic engineering modifications.
Fight Disease
Orange oil is being studied as a possible antibacterial agent to fight against drug-resistant bacteria. The oil has been found to have antimicrobial activity against Helicobacter pylori, gram-negative bacteria that live in your stomach mucous. They have been associated with the cause of several stomach diseases, according to a 2009 article in "Forsch Komplementmed."
Decrease Heartburn
Orange oil is being used as a natural treatment to relieve heartburn without the negative effects sometimes experienced with prescribed medications, says Russell Martin, reporter for "Life Extension Magazine." D-limonene, an extract found in orange oil is thought to protect your stomach lining and possibly your esophagus from irritants and infection.
Healthy Skin
Massage orange oil into your skin to soothe it when it feels irritated, dry or rough. Orange oil softens your skin, stimulates your circulation and lymphatic system and is also used to fight against acne, and fungal and microbial skin diseases.
