How to Carve on a Snow Skate

The hybrid sport of snow skating combines the tricks of skateboarding with the mountainous terrain of snowboarding. Similar to the construction of the skateboard, the snow skateboard features a wooden design made of maple. To prevent the snow skateboard from sinking into the snow, manufactures equip the board with a wide waist and an elevated nose and tail. According to "Starfish Snowskate" magazine, certain models of the snow skateboard feature miniature skis fastened on the bottom. The carving technique will allow you to traverse across the snow-covered slope.

Step 1

Hold your snow skateboard while riding the ski lift to the top of the slope. Lower your snow skate onto the ground in a horizontal position. Align your lead boot near the front of the snow skate.

Step 2

Lower your opposing boot onto the tail of the snow skate. Rotate your shoulders to point the nose of the snow skate down the slope. Bend your knees as you begin to slide forward.

Step 3

Extend your arms horizontally for increased balance. Lean back onto the heel edge of the snow skate to carve across the slope. Shift your body weight onto the toe edge of the snow skate to carve in the opposing direction.

Step 4

Rotate the board to a horizontal position as you reach the bottom of the slope. Hold your snow skate while riding the lift to the top of the slope. Practice the carving technique to increase your board control and maneuverability.
