While even the most basic skateboarding maneuvers can take years to master, a few standard techniques will aid in the learning process. As any avid skateboarder realizes quickly, learning to land tricks consistently requires constant practice. Understanding the proper foot placement will allow you to maintain control of the board during aerial tricks. The skateboarding professionals at the Berrics training facility recommend learning your tricks in the confines of a skateboarding park. Skateboard parks feature a smoothly paved floor, as well as numerous obstacles.

Step 1

Transport your skateboard to a nearby training facility. Lower the skateboard onto the floor to learn the proper riding stance. Place your lead foot onto the middle of the skateboard in a perpendicular position.

Step 2

Push off the floor of the skate park with your opposing foot to roll forward. Repeat the pushing technique until you reach a comfortable momentum. Lift your pushing foot onto the elevated rear of the board, known as the tail.

Step 3

Lean onto the outer edge of the skateboard to navigate around any obstacles in your rolling path. Lean onto your heels to turn in the opposing direction. Push your skateboard in the direction of an inclined bank ramp.

Step 4

Slide your lead foot forward to balance your riding stance. Bend your knees as you approach the bottom of the bank ramp. Lean back slightly as you begin to ascend the face of the ramp.

Step 5

Push down on the tail of the skateboard as you reach the apex of the ramp. Rotate your shoulders to turn the skateboard 180 degrees. Lean forward to complete a maneuver known as the kick turn.

Step 6

Bend your knees as you roll off the ramp onto flat ground. Drag your back shoe across the ground to slow the momentum of the board. Practice these elementary techniques to improve your skateboarding skills.
