If you need to lose weight and do not want to cook much for yourself, a diet delivery program such as Nutrisystem may be a good choice for you. The basic structure of Nutrisystem remains the same throughout your weight loss program; but when you sign up, you may receive the Jumpstart kit as a bonus. Get your doctor's advice and approval before starting a weight loss diet.
Diet Overview
Nutrisystem has plans for men, women, individuals with type 2 diabetes and older adults. Nutrisystem claims you may lose at least 1 to 2 lb. per week on its weight loss program. The program recommends eating five to six times per day, and the prepared meals and snacks are low glycemic to prevent spikes in your blood sugar levels. Along with prepared foods, meal plan recommendations, and access to online weight tracking tools, you may receive a Nutrisystem Jumpstart kit when you sign up for the program.
Jumpstart Kit
The Jumpstart kit includes Nutrisystem FlavorFulls, which are mixes in lemonade or iced tea flavors you can combine with water to make 5-calorie drinks. The kit also comes with Nutrisystem Success Cards with tips for sticking to your diet and achieving your goals for weight loss and maintenance. With Nutrisystem Jumpstart, you can use the Premium Coach Connect service to get extra nutritional counseling.
Nutrisystem Meals
Nutrisystem delivers a breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack for each day; together these items provide an average of 700 calories, 19 g fat, 42 g protein, 104 g carbohydrate, 27 g sugars and 16 g fiber per day. You can choose each of your meals from the Nutrisystem store; examples include cereal or a muffin for breakfast, soup or a salad for lunch, chicken enchiladas or chili with beans for dinner, and cake or cheese snacks for a dessert or snack.
Other Information
Supplement your Nutrisystem meals with healthy foods, listed in your meal plan, that you purchase from the grocery store. Choices include whole grains, beans, lean proteins, fat-free dairy, fruits, vegetables and peanut butter. With these foods, your Nutrisystem plan will contain about 55 to 60 percent of calories from carbohydrates, 20 to 25 percent from protein, and 20 to 25 percent from fat, which is lower than the 25 to 35 percent from fat recommended in the 2010 Dietary Guidelines from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The Nutrisystem Jumpstart kit can get you started on your weight loss journey; and as you reach your goal weight, Nutrisystem claims it will gradually help you transition to preparing food for yourself so you do not regain weight.
