Heading out for an afternoon ride on your mountain bike can be a fun recreational activity that improves your health, but joining a guided trip allows you to witness some of the best views and sights around the world. With the diverse landscape on a guided mountain bike trip, you have the opportunity to learn from the guide along with testing your riding skills on technical trails.

Moab

Moab, Utah is often considered the mecca for mountain biking because of the red rock terrain, national parks and miles upon miles of trails that can challenge any riding ability. The Moab Adventure Center (moabadventurecenter.com) offers mountain bike tours of the Moab area led by professional guides. You can choose from several tours including the Courthouse Loop, Canyonlands National Park, Klondike Bluffs or Bartlett Wash. There is a trip designed for any riding ability and trip durations range from an afternoon to several days.

Pacific Northwest

The Pacific Northwest includes the coastal region from northern California extending north through Oregon and into Washington. On Wilderness Venture's (wildernessventures.com) tour, you ride 35 to 45 miles per day from Seattle to San Francisco as it winds through the sandy beaches, bluffs, seaside villages and redwood forests along the way. During the 28-day mountain bike trip, you stop at historical sites, lighthouses and campsites before finishing the trip by crossing the Golden Gate Bridge. The trip is open to beginners and experienced cyclists with bicycles, handlebar bags, saddlebags and racks provided by the company.

Grand Canyon

Mountain biking on the Arizona Trail in the Kaibab National Forest provides an opportunity to witness the natural grandeur and scenic views of the Grand Canyon. Escape Adventures (escapeadventures.com) starts its Grand Canyon guided trip on the Kaibab Plateau before crossing the plateau and heading on the Rainbow Rim Trail. For two days, you cover 36 miles of singletrack trails on rolling terrain and technical challenges that offer canyon overlooks.

Rocky Mountains

Riding through the Rocky Mountains on alpine dirt roads and singletrack trails is an outdoor recreationists dream for a mountain bike trip. Rocky Mountain Outdoor Center (rmoc.com) offers an easy half-day or full-day group rides; you can also choose the five-day continental divide trip that challenges a moderate to advanced rider with technical trails and breathtaking views. All of the Rocky Mountain trips include van support for your gear and equipment.
