Wearing a baseball hat can be a fashion statement. However, if you play baseball or softball, it is an important and functional part of your uniform. For example, when you look up to catch that pop fly, you don't want the sun to blind you and cause you to miss the catch for an easy out. If you wear it properly, a baseball cap shades your eyes. However, if you wear it improperly, it can block your line of vision.
Step 1
Loosen the buckle on the back of the cap. Depending on the cap, you may have to slide the metal ring to the side, unsnap plastic snaps or pull apart two pieces of fabric stuck together with a fabric fastener of interlocking nylon hooks.
Step 2
Place the hat on your head so the bill faces forward.
Step 3
Adjust the buckle at different points to determine at what point the cap feels comfortable and secure on your head. Move your head around to ensure the bill does not slope forward and block your vision.
Step 4
Secure the buckle by sliding the metal ring into place, snapping the plastic hole shut over the plastic dot snap, or sticking the two pieces of fabric fasteners together.
Tips and Warnings
- If you want to tie your hair back, you have two main options: pulling a ponytail through the open spot above the buckle or securing the tie at your neck below the hat. You also can wear a low braid or pigtails below the hat. Some caps do not have adjustable bands. For this reason, it's always best to order the cap to your head size to ensure the best fit. To break in a stiff cap, stuff the cap with a pillow case or newspaper and then wrap a rubber band under the bill. When the bill has the bend that you desire, remove the band.
- Wear sunscreen with an SPF of 30 on your face, ears and neck; the cap provides only limited sun protection.
