Step-by-Step to Tightening a ProForm Treadmill Belt

If you feel your ProForm walking belt slipping under your feet when you're using the treadmill, you need to tighten the walking belt. ProForm treadmills have one of two tightening styles: one-bolt or two-bolt. Look at the bolts at the back end of the walking deck. They are recessed in the end caps. If the right bolt has an Allen wrench head, meaning you can fit your Allen wrench into the recess, you have a two-bolt adjustment style. If the right bolt has a hex head, you have a one-bolt adjustment ProForm treadmill.

One-Bolt Adjustment Treadmill

Step 1

Remove the magnetic key from the console and unplug the treadmill.

Step 2

Use one wrench to hold the nut on the back of the right adjustment bolt.

Step 3

Place the other wrench over the hex head bolt.

Step 4

Turn the bolt 1/4 turn, clockwise.

Step 5

Lift the middle edge of the walking belt. It should lift 3 to 4 inches off the deck. If it is not tight enough, repeat steps two through five until it is.

Two-Bolt Adjustment

Step 1

Remove the magnetic key and unplug your ProForm treadmill.

Step 2

Use the Allen wrench to turn both adjustment bolts, 1/4 turn, clockwise.

Step 3

Test the belt tension by lifting the middle edge of the belt. If it lifts more than 3 to 4 inches, repeat step two until it is properly tensioned.

Tips and Warnings

  • After the belt is properly tightened, plug in the treadmill, insert the safety key and run the belt for a few minutes to make sure it runs smoothly. Do not use the treadmill until you test the belt.
  • Make sure and test the belt tension after each 1/4 turn of the adjustment bolts. Do not over tighten the belt as this can damage the belt and motor.
