Chocolate fountains provide a tasty and aesthetically pleasing decoration for a variety of events including weddings, showers, graduations, anniversary parties and birthday parties. You can provide a wide variety of desserts to serve with your fountain, such as marshmallows, pretzels, strawberries and cake. To make a chocolate foundation work, you will first need to make chocolate fondue, or melted chocolate.

Step 1

Set up your fondue pot. Light the candle underneath it to begin heating your pot. If your fondue pot is electric, turn the pot on a low setting.

Step 2

Place 1 tbsp. of vanilla extract, 3/4 cup of milk and 10 oz. of chocolate in your fondue pot. To make melting the chocolate easier, use small pieces of chocolate or chocolate chips. Microwave large pieces of chocolate for 30 seconds to soften them.

Step 3

Allow your ingredients to heat for a few minutes.

Step 4

Stir your chocolate every few minutes to avoid clumping.

Step 5

Allow your chocolate to sit in the fondue pot and continue stirring it until smooth. This may take 15 to 20 minutes.

Step 6

Pour the chocolate from your fondue pot into the top of your chocolate fountain. Turn the fountain on.

Tips and Warnings

  • To avoid burning the chocolate while it is in the fondue pot, stir frequently. Mix the chocolate around so the same chocolate does not remain on the bottom of the pot.
