1. Join a Gang
Eating a balanced diet starts when babies begin to wean from the nipple and begin to enjoy real, though mashed up, food. Children develop habits early and by being introduced to health food in all its natural and packaged forms will help the child to continue eating right for life. Every adult, whether on a diet or not, can benefit from eating a balanced diet. Sure, you can maintain a good weight with a balanced diet, but the list of diseases that can be prevented is endless, making it well worth the effort.
2. Live Free
Heart disease and cancer are the two biggies that can be prevented by eating more natural foods on a balanced diet. The proper amount of protein is vital for energy to take on the big challenges and excel at any sport. Carbohydrates are the fuel of life and fat is necessary to for the organs to operate efficiently. Eating right allows us the freedom to enjoy the rest of life that doesn't revolve around food. Not only will we look better, but we'll feel better too.
3. Savor the Sweet Life
A balanced daily intake of food will include the five basic food groups: carbs in the form of bread, potatoes, pasta, and rice; fruits and vegetables; milk and dairy food; meat, fish and beans and the all-important sweets. Sugar and fat are as much a part of a balanced diet as lentils and lettuce. It's the amount and type of sweets that bring on the problems. Ice cream, cakes and chocolate are an important part of life and should be savored for the joy they are in small, sweet bites.
4. Remain Ever Vigilant
Set up a schedule of how much of each of the five food groups you need to maintain a comfortable weight and give you enough energy to do everything you want. Keep a journal for a while until you are more confident in eyeballing amounts and counting grams and calories. With some practice and a little vigilance, you'll eventually know when you've had enough of one food group and where you need more. Listen to your body, it knows what it needs.
5. Do it now
Start with breakfast. Kick off each day with a nutritious, balanced meal and the rest of the day will flow much easier. If you've consumed the right amounts of protein, carbs, milk and fruit in the morning, your body will run smoothly. Some people have discovered they operate better on five small meals or three decent meals with a couple of healthy snacks thrown in for good measure. Count it all up and the day can be knocked out easily with enough servings of each group to keep you strong and healthy.
