Weight loss is a popular topic that offers a breadth of so-called remedies within the marketplace. Many come in the form of diet pills, fad diets or quick weight-loss beverages that can be harmful to your health and yield only temporary results. Instead of shelling out your hard-earned money on fad diets, try using home remedies instead.

Clean Out Cabinets

Chances are your cabinets are full of high-calorie sugary and fatty foods. The simple act of getting rid of these empty calories will greatly aid in your weight loss efforts. It might seem wasteful to throw food away, but eliminating junk food will help you in the long run. If you like, you can donate any nonperishable food to churches and food banks.

Water

Many forget about beverage consumption when they begin a diet. However, liquids can account for a significant number of calories, especially sodas, fruit juices and alcohol. Replace these beverages with water, which is calorie-free and healthy. Water also helps fill you up between meals so you are unlikely to gorge on empty calories. Aim to drink at least 8 to 10 glasses a day.

Fiber and Protein

Fiber- and protein-rich foods can help you lose weight because they are nutrient dense and take longer to digest than other foods. Fiber-rich foods require more time to consume, so that your body feels full more quickly. Protein-rich foods help suppress your appetite and take a while for your body to digest, so they burn more calories while doing so.

Exercise

You do not need an expensive gym membership to lose weight. You can walk or jog around your neighborhood. If you have a bike or pool, you can bicycle or swim for a solid cardio workout. If you want to increase lean muscle mass, buy some ankle weights and dumbbells to work your major muscle groups. You can get plenty of aerobic and anaerobic exercise in the comfort of your own home.
