Adding a fruit garnish to mixed drinks helps enhance the presentation and adds to the flavor of the drink. Fruit garnishes are chosen strategically by bartenders to ensure all of the flavors compliment one another. Your choices of fruit garnish are more than simply a twist of lime or lemon, and making one is not complicated.

Step 1

Cut the ends off citrus fruits like lemon, lime or orange and then cut in half. Cut the halves in half to make wedges, and then make a slit in the middle of the wedge and add it to the rim of the glass.

Step 2

Cut the ends off citrus fruits and then make thin, 1/8-inch to ¼-inch slices all the way down the fruit. Make a slice from the center of the wheel to the edge and set it on the rim of your glass.

Step 3

Slice a thin strip of citrus peel with a knife or vegetable peeler and tie it in a knot or bow to add to your drink, or use a paring knife to slice all the way around the rind to make one long spiral.

Step 4

Cut the ends off an apple, and then make 1/8-inch slices. Make a slit from the middle of the slice out through the edge and add to the rim of a martini glass, just before serving.

Step 5

Peel a banana and slice it into small circles to add to drinks that contain banana liqueur.

Step 6

Slide a cocktail stick through a cherry, raspberry, blueberry or strawberry and place it into your drink.
