Magnesium and vitamin B-6 work synergistically to drastically minimize the intensity of premenstrual syndrome symptoms. Independently, both magnesium and vitamin B-6 are useful in decreasing breast tenderness, weight gain, insomnia, bloating and swelling of the legs. However, when used concurrently with each other, these supplements produce greater results than either of them applied individually.
Consult your physician prior to managing your PMS symptoms with magnesium citrate and vitamin B-6 or any other remedy.
Step 1
Start taking a daily 300 mg magnesium citrate supplement and 200 mg vitamin B-6 supplement five days prior to the start of your menstrual cycle or when your PMS symptoms begin, whichever occurs first. Take these supplements at the same time with a meal or snack. Because calcium assists the body in properly utilizing magnesium, you should include a food rich in calcium, such as yogurt, cheese or milk, with the meal or snack.
Step 2
Schedule your magnesium citrate and vitamin B-6 supplements at the same time each day to sustain steady levels of them in your system.
Step 3
Take one additional dose of your magnesium citrate and vitamin B-6 supplements after your PMS symptoms have been completely relieved. Discontinue use of these supplements after this dose.
