Once you receive your personal trainer certification, your education doesn't stop. Most fitness professional certifying agencies require that you earn continuing education units, or CEUs, within two years. The National Strength and Conditioning Association suggests attending conferences or workshops, or being a presenter at fitness symposiums to earn your education credits. The American Council on Exercise offers in-home study courses and credits for reading their magazine articles and submitting your test answers. The goal of continuing education is to keep current with new exercise trends, research and guidelines in the fitness industry. The easiest way to earn CEUs is to combine your credits with your other certification requirements.
Step 1
Enroll, attend and pass a cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR, course to earn CEUs and fulfill your personal trainer certification CPR requirement.
Step 2
Enroll, attend and pass a first aid course to earn CEUs and fulfill your certifying agency's first aid requirement.
Step 3
Combine your CPR and automated external defibrillator, AED, trainings into one workshop to earn two CEUs. At the same time, you will fulfill your personal trainer requirement to stay current in these areas.
