Crabmeat is a food staple for those residents who live in areas where crabs are plentiful, and a special occasion treat for those who don't. You can find fresh crabmeat in many grocery stores, and canned crabmeat is always an option. Some common crab dishes include crab cakes, crab salad or crab casserole. Making a crab casserole allows you to use quite a bit of creativity with ingredients and still enjoy the flavor of the crab.
Step 1
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 2
Place six large eggs into boiling water and let them simmer for 15 minutes.
Step 3
Remove the eggs and cool them under running water while peeling off their shells.
Step 4
Dice the eggs and set aside.
Step 5
Sauté the chopped onion in olive oil for several minutes, or until translucent.
Step 6
Add fresh or canned crabmeat to a mixing bowl and break it up with a wooden spoon or spatula.
Step 7
Add the other ingredients, such as the mayonnaise, bread crumbs, half-and-half, eggs and sautéed onion. Fold the ingredients together until the mixture holds a uniform consistency.
Step 8
Spoon the crab mixture into individual bowls or ramekins, or into a larger casserole dish.
Step 9
Top with additional bread crumbs to create a crust.
Step 10
Slide the dish into the oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes.
Tips and Warnings
- Substitute regular milk for the half-and-half if you want to reduce the fat content. Add parsley or green onion to the top as a garnish.
