Nutritional Information for Egg Whites

Eggs are good sources of nutrients, including protein, vitamins and minerals. Egg whites can be a good part of a healthy diet.

Protein

Being an animal product, eggs are good sources of protein--one large egg contains about 6g of protein. All of the protein in an egg is found in the egg white.

Vitamins and Minerals

Eggs are a good source of minerals and vitamins, including the B vitamins. Unfortunately, all those nutrients are in the egg yolk, and you will not get them from just eating egg whites.

Benefits

All the fat in eggs is found in the egg yolk. Eating only egg whites will eliminate excess fat and caloric intake, which can help maintain a healthy weight

Misconceptions

Eggs are high in cholesterol. An average large egg contains 212mg of cholesterol. However, cholesterol, like fat, is only in egg yolks.

Considerations

Consider eating just the egg whites if you eat eggs regularly. This will limit your fat and cholesterol intake. However, try to incorporate the whole egg into your diet occasionally to obtain the vitamins and minerals that are found in the egg yolk.
