Properly maintaining your Pro-Form treadmill is important if you want it to run smoothly for many years. The running belt receives the most use of any parts on your Pro-Form treadmill. If you don't properly lubricate your running belt, the increased friction between the belt and deck will pull more power from the motor, which wears down the motor and the belt prematurely. Lubricate the belt once every six to 12 months or when the back of the belt feels dry to the touch.
Step 1
Find the rear adjustment bolts that are in the end-caps at the back of the deck. Use the Allen wrench and turn both bolts to the left to loosen the walking belt. Turn both bolts the same number of times and count the turns.
Step 2
Use a cloth dampened with water to wipe down the deck and the backside of the belt. Allow the surfaces to completely dry before applying the oil.
Step 3
Lift the edge of the belt and squeeze a line of lubricant, about half of the tube, from the front to the back of the deck. Move to the other side of the deck and repeat.
Step 4
Tighten the rear bolts with the same number of turns as you did to loosen them in step one.
Step 5
Start the treadmill and run the belt at 2 to 3 mph for five minutes. This spreads the lube over the deck.
Tips and Warnings
- Contact Pro-Form for a recommended lubricant. Most treadmill lubes come in single-application tubes -- about 1.5 to 2 oz.
- Not all Pro-Form treadmills require lubrication. Some models, especially newer treadmills, have maintenance-free belts that were pre-lubricated at the factory. Check you owner's manual or contact Pro-Form to determine if you should lubricate your running belt. After lubricating the belt, follow the instructions in your owner's manual to check that the belt is properly tensioned.
