Yoga Teaching Courses in India

Learning how to teach yoga in India provides an opportunity to be fully immersed in the roots of yoga philosophy. Teacher training programs are usually classified as intensives, meaning you will study daily for a certain period of time and reside on site for the duration of the program. Before deciding on a program, determine if it is necessary for it to be recognized by the Yoga Alliance, an organization that regulates teaching standards.

Shri Kali

The Shri Kali Ashram is located in Agonda, Goa, the southwest coast of India. The ashram is specific to the tantra yoga method. The 200-hour teacher-training course lasts for four weeks and includes lectures, yoga practice and ayurvedic massage. The teacher-training courses offered at Shri Kali are recognized by the Yoga Alliance. The ashram also offers more advanced certification at the 500-hour and master level.

Yoga Point

The yoga teacher-training course offered at Yoga Point is a 250-hour training that lasts for four weeks. The training is focused on traditional Indian yoga, which covers basic to advanced techniques of hatha and ashtanga yoga. The daily schedule includes mantra practice, karma yoga, asana practice, yoga nidra, lecture time, self study time, meditation and sanskrit study. The ashram is located in Nasik which is 170 kilometers from Mumbai. The certification at Yoga Point is not recognized by the Yoga Alliance.

Byron Yoga

The Byron Yoga teacher-training course is a 14-day, level one, intensive program recognized by the Yoga Alliance. The method of focus is Purna yoga, an integrative form of yoga. The daily schedule includes asana practice, lectures and meditation or kirtan. The training is held at the Kailash Beach Resort in Pudukkupam, in the Bay of Bengal. The facility is a a four-star resort with food and massage offered on site.

Akhanda Yoga

Akhandha yoga offers their yoga training course at an ashram in Rishikesh, a Ganges-side town at the foot of the Himalayas. Akhanda yoga is focused on teaching a holistic and balanced form of yoga. The teacher trainings are offered at the 200- and 500-hour levels, both recognized by the Yoga Alliance. The curriculum covers asana practice, ayurveda and yoga philosophy.
