Le Creuset grill pans are made of enameled cast iron, a durable, oven-safe surface for indoor cooking. The pans' ridges create characteristic sear or grill marks on your food, including steaks. You can use a Le Creuset grill pan for any cut of steak, whether it's a bargain buy or a splurge at the butcher shop.

Step 1

Move the oven rack to approximately 6 inches below the broiler in your oven. Place the Le Creuset grill pan on the rack and allow it to preheat, with the oven on "Broil" for 15 to 20 minutes.

Step 2

Dry the steaks with a clean cloth or paper towels. Brush with olive oil and salt immediately before cooking.

Step 3

Oil the hot grill pan lightly with nut or vegetable oil. Olive oil has a low smoking point and is not ideal for this purpose.

Step 4

Place the steaks under the broiler and cook for 3 minutes per side.

Step 5

Lower the heat to 500 degrees F and allow the steaks to cook as desired -- around 4 to 5 minutes for a medium rare 1 1/4-inch thick steak, turning it halfway through.

Step 6

Check the temperature of the meat with a meat thermometer to make sure you cook it as desired. If you prefer a rare steak, the meat should be 120 to 130 degrees F. A medium rare steak should be 140 to 150 degrees F, while a medium well steak should be 150 to 160 degrees F, according to premium steak supplier Lindauer Family Farms.

Step 7

Wait 5 minutes before cutting and serving the steak to allow the meat to reabsorb the juices.
