Properly maintaining your NordicTrack belt will prolong its life, but eventually, all treadmill belts wear out. If the underside of the belt is smooth or has black marks or if the edges are frayed or torn, this indicates the belt is worn and needs replaced. You can replace the belt yourself with a little preparation and planning.
Preparation
Make sure you have the proper tools before you begin. Belt replacement procedures may differ slightly among different NordicTrack treadmill models, but in general, you will need an Allen wrench, Phillips screwdriver and an adjustable wrench. The Allen wrenches you need were included with your NordicTrack treadmill.
It comes in handy to have a friend there to help you install the new belt. One person holds up the deck while the other removes the old belt and slides on the new belt.
Adjustment Bolt
The rear roller bolts adjust and tension the walking belt. Several steps in the belt replacement procedure involve adjusting the rear roller bolts. NordicTrack treadmills have two adjustment styles: one-bolt adjustment and two-bolt adjustment. Look at your rear bolts, which are in the back-end of the deck. If both bolts take an Allen wrench, you have a two-bolt style, which means you use both bolts to center and tension the belt. If the right bolt has a hex head, you have a one-bolt style, which means you use the left bolt to center the belt and the right bolt to tension the belt.
Correct Belt
NordicTrack produces a large number of treadmill models with a large array of different belt sizes and types. If you have a 17-inch by 50-inch belt, you can use a 20-inch by 60-inch belt, even if it is a NordicTrack belt. To get the correct replacement belt, know your treadmill model name, model number or serial number. You can find this information in the owner's manual or on the information sticker, which is attached to the treadmill frame.
Considerations
Before you replace your belt, check to see if your treadmill is still under warranty. If it is, the belt or the labor may be covered by the manufacturer.
Take your time when disassembling the deck. Don't force any of the parts. Some of the pieces are made of plastic and may break.
After installing your new belt, follow the directions in your owner's manual to properly center and tension the belt.
