Many baseball gloves are held together by leather laces, which can become brittle and break over time. If the glove is not taken care of, especially if it is left in sunlight for too long, the leather can shrink slightly and dry out, causing the lacing to be not as tight. When the lacing in the glove is not tight or breaks, it will need to be replaced. You can restring your baseball glove at home without taking it to a sporting goods store for repairs, which could be costly.
Step 1
Remove the existing lace by pulling the broken lace out with a pair of needle-nose pliers. If needed, cut the lace with scissors to make it easier to remove. Once you remove all of the existing lace, you will be able to start fresh with new lace.
Step 2
Rub glove conditioner into the glove when the laces were removed to help make the leather more pliable and easier to work with. If you don't have glove conditioner, use such home remedies as shaving cream or mild hand soap and water.
Step 3
Cut one end of the lace into a point and tie a knot at the opposite end so that the lacing doesn't get pushed all the way through. Thread the lace through the eye holes in the leather of the glove. Follow the pattern of the original lacing, using a threading needle and pliers to help push and pull the lacing through the holes.
Step 4
Tie a knot at the end of the lacing so that the end is flush against the leather. Make sure the glove can still open and close normally. If it works like new, you should be able to use your glove like normal.
