Peel-and-eat shrimp is specially prepared so that the shells come off easily. You can buy pre-cooked, frozen and refrigerated peel-and-eat shrimp from the seafood department at your grocery store. Eat them cold with cocktail sauce, or briefly reheat them. Because the shrimp are already cooked, do not reheat them for too long or they will become tough and rubbery.

Step 1

Fill a 10-quart pot 2/3 full with cold water and place on the stovetop.

Step 2

Rinse lemons in cold water to remove any pesticides or residue. Cut the lemons in half, width-wise.

Step 3

Squeeze the lemon halves into the water and drop them in the pot. Add butter, sea salt and bay leaf, and bring the water to a boil.

Step 4

Rinse 2 lbs. pre-cooked peel-and-eat shrimp in a colander under cold water. If the shrimp are frozen, let them thaw in the refrigerator overnight before cleaning them.

Step 5

Put the cleaned shrimp into a steamer basket and lower it into the boiling water. Heat for 3 minutes. Remove the shrimp promptly and transfer them to a serving dish.
