Although the ThighMaster was originally intended to shape and tone your thighs and glutes, newer models tone your legs, glutes, abdominal muscles and arms. The ThighMaster Gold is designed to tone your inner thighs and upper body, while the ThighMaster LBX targets your outer thighs and glutes. Consult your doctor before beginning any type of exercise regimen, especially if you're new to exercise.
Function
Although the ThighMaster Gold doesn't offer the variety of exercises that dumbbells or machines do, you can work your upper arms with the portable workout device. The coiled spring system works your arms by providing resistance as you push or pull the handles together. To continue to build muscle, you'll need to move on to free weights or machines that provide more resistance as your strength improves.
Biceps
Working out your biceps tightens the front of your upper arm and strengthens the muscles used for pulling movements. Place one of the handles of the ThighMaster Gold under your left armpit, holding it in place with your right hand. The middle joint should extend behind you. Grip the lower handle with your left hand and bend at the elbow to squeeze the handles together. The motion should resemble a biceps curl. Slowly lower your arm and perform 10 to 15 repetitions. Repeat on the opposite arm.
Triceps
Strengthening your triceps tightens the back of your upper arm, which helps your arm move through pushing motions. Hold the ThighMaster Gold in front of your body with the spring against your ribcage. One handle should go down your right thigh with the other extended in front of you. Hold the equipment close to your body with your left hand and place your right arm along the extended handle. Keep your elbow in place as you press down with your right forearm, squeezing the handles together. Perform 10 to 15 repetitions, then repeat on the opposite arm.
Considerations
For optimal results when using the ThighMaster to strengthen you arms, perform each movement with proper technique. Performing the exercises properly also reduces your risk of injury. Use the ThighMaster Gold as part of your strength training workout on a regular basis to effectively tone and tighten arm muscles. Always perform a proper warm-up and cool-down when using the ThighMaster. Combine your ThighMaster strength-training workouts with a healthy diet and regular aerobic activity to further tone and strengthen your arms.
