Green Supreme Multivitamins are a mixture of vitamins, minerals, herbs and phytochemicals available in capsule form. The makers boast that, in addition to essential vitamins and minerals, Green Supreme Multivitamins contain 25 fruits and vegetables. The pills also contain herbs and spices that deliver unique health benefits. The supplements also feature Bioperine, an alkoloid derived from black pepper that is touted to increase nutrient absorption.

Vitamin C

Green Supreme Multivitamins contain 250 mg of vitamin C from both ascorbic acid and rose hips, which equates to 420 percent of the daily recommended value. Vitamin C is necessary in the body for the formation of bones, cartilage, muscles and blood vessels. Vitamin C contributes to the proper absorption of iron and is also a potent antioxidant.

B Vitamins

The B vitamins are a group of eight independent vitamins that play an important role in metabolism, skin health, muscle tone, immune function, nervous system function and red blood cell growth. Green Supreme Multivitamins contain more than daily required doses of B-1, B-2, B-3, B-6, B-9, B-5 and B-12.

May Reduce Health Costs

A 1997 study published in the "Western Journal of Medicine" projected the potential reduction in health costs if daily multivitamins were taken. Specifically, the study compared the potential effects on birth defects, premature births and heart disease. The researchers found that if women of childbearing age took a daily multivitamin containing zinc and folic acid hospital charges could be reduced by as much as 60 percent. If all those over 50 years old took a daily vitamin E supplement heart disease could be reduced by 38 percent.

Expert Insight

While the benefits of individual ingredients of multivitamins has in many cases been proven, the efficacy of dietary supplements is a source of debate. The quality and processing of the capsule can great effect the outcomes. A review of studies published in "Annals of Internal Medicine" specifically examined the use of multivitamins in the prevention of cancer and chronic disease. The researchers concluded that evidence is insufficient to prove the presence or absence of benefits from use of multivitamin and mineral supplements.
