Spas are the place to go when you feel stressed or just need to treat yourself to some TLC. However, there are quite a few spas worldwide that cater to those looking to shed pounds and learn how to live a healthier lifestyle. If losing weight is your main concern, you need to find a spa that makes weight loss its number one priority. Weight loss spa programs can be pricey, but you can always check with your health insurance to see if any tests or treatments may be covered.

Spa Offerings

Most spas offering a weight loss program create a multi-day or multi-week package that includes a variety of exercise, healthy meals, meal planning and wellness workshops. The location of many of the spas determines the types of exercise offered. For example, a spa located on the coast may offer yoga on the beach and sea kayaking in addition to the usual indoor class aerobics, while a weight loss spa in the mountains may incorporate hiking in their weight loss plan. Many spas offer healthy food to eat for each meal and some offer classes and take-home menus so you can re-create what you ate at the spa at home. Since these are spas, many offer massages, facials, wraps, body scrubs and other treatments to make you feel good. Some spas include one or two spa offerings in the price, while others offer only a-la-carte services.

What To Look For

Weight loss spas cater to many different types of people. Some offer women or men-only spas so you will feel less self-conscious. Others offer deals for mothers and daughters or for friends when you book rooms together. It is important to find a spa that is in a location either near where you live or in a place you would like to visit. You should also consider the length of time you want to spend at the weight loss spa as well as the cost and what is included in the price. Look for a spa that offers a program where you will feel comfortable and where you will be able to have fun and reach your goals.

Cost

Most weight loss spas last for at least a weekend and may last up to two or four weeks. Meals, lodging, exercise classes, wellness classes and take-home plans are usually included in your price, and the price for such spas is upwards of $2,000 per week. Check for deals by looking at the spa's website or by calling and asking about any promotions during the time you are looking to visit. Some spas offer 2-for-1 weekends or may charge a cheaper amount if you attend earlier in the week, rather than over a weekend.

Fitting Your Needs

Find a spa that targets any potential problems you may have that keep you from losing weight. Some spas offer specialized programs for people who have had bariatric surgery, while others focus on people who have eating disorders or who find comfort in food. The daily workshops offered at the spas are led by trained professionals and usually incorporate a therapist and a nutritionist to locate and help remedy your problem with losing weight and assist you in creating a plan to overcome your challenges and help you shed pounds.
