Losing 10 lbs. doesn't have to be a painful or difficult process. Rather, making easy changes to your exercise and eating habits gives you a better chance of not only losing the excess pounds, but keeping them off, as well. Be sure to talk with your doctor before you begin losing weight. Make sure that you are setting healthy, realistic goals for yourself, and then take steps to get the best body for you.

Exercise Every Day

Teenagers’ bodies require about an hour’s worth of physical activity a day. However, you can break those 60 minutes up into 10 minute increments and still get the calorie-burning benefits. You can hit the gym if you want, but don’t think that jogging on a treadmill or lifting weights is the only way to exercise. You might try walking your dog in the morning, riding your bike to school, playing basketball during lunch and taking a ballet or karate class in the evening. It is a better idea to choose activities you enjoy and look forward to, since this will make you more likely to keep up with them even after you’ve lost the 10 lbs.

Adjust Your Servings

If you do not read nutrition labels and pay attention to your portions, you may be eating more than you realize. A good way to begin a weight-loss regimen is to read the nutrition facts and serving sizes of what you eat, and then adjust your portions accordingly. If you are still hungry after a meal, you can go back for more, but wait at least 20 minutes before doing so. This is how long it takes your brain to recognize whether you are full, and failing to wait this amount of time can lead to overeating.

Eat Breakfast

You might think skipping meals will help you drop pounds, but actually, this can do more harm than good. Eating regularly keeps your metabolism going and helps prevent you from overeating by becoming too hungry. Breakfast is especially important, since this is what gets your metabolism ready for the day. Furthermore, people who eat breakfast tend to weigh less than those who don’t. Something as simple and nutritious as whole-wheat toast with jam or some string cheese and fruit may be enough to satisfy you until lunch.

Additional Tips and Reminders

Keep in mind that as a teenager, your body is still growing and changing. Your focus should be primarily on being active and eating healthy, not on the number that is on the scale. The more you move and the healthier foods you eat, the better you will feel. But if you are concerned about your weight or are having difficulty losing excess pounds, go see your doctor. She may be able to offer suggestions and help steer you in the right direction.
