Pizza is a delicious treat; however, most pizzas contain a lot of fat and calories. Heart-healthy eating involves cutting back on fat and boosting your intake of whole grains, lean meats and fresh produce. Making a heart-smart pizza can be easy using Bisquick Heart Smart baking mix. Bisquick Heart Smart is made in part from wheat flour and contains no saturated fat, which both contribute to heart health. Topping the pizza in a heart-healthy manner is up to you.

Step 1

Combine Bisquick Heart Smart baking mix, the egg white and water in a mixing bowl. Stir until a dough forms. Sprinkle a bit more Bisquick into the dough if the mixture is too sticky to handle. These measurements create a two-serving pizza; double the recipe to feed a larger family.

Step 2

Spray a loaf pan with non-fat cooking spray and press the dough into the pan. You can also use a cookie sheet or pizza stone if you prefer.

Step 3

Top the pizza crust with heart-healthy toppings, including a thin later of low-sugar, low-sodium pizza sauce, the low-fat mozzarella cheese and plenty of fresh vegetables ,such as onions, mushrooms, bell peppers, fresh tomatoes, spinach and broccoli, which all contain essential nutrients to keep your cardiovascular system strong without adding fat. If you prefer a meat pizza, dot the top of your Bisquick Heart Smart pizza with slices of chicken or turkey pepperoni.

Step 4

Boost the flavor of your low-fat, heart-healthy pizza with Italian seasonings. Rosemary, oregano, crushed hot pepper have distinctive flavors that will please your taste buds without compromising your cholesterol levels.
